Beatrice Thistleby
Louisa's sister, a pianist, and an attentive listener even when the musicians are still trying things.
Look closer at the illustration ↗Beatrice travels with her sister Louisa. She is the taller of the two, with silver hair and spectacles. At the seaside she buys postcards and wants to hear the musicians rehearsing in the pavilion after supper.
Louisa's little boat game is on the way. Beatrice watches her sister steer, keeps one suggestion to herself, and then takes a turn at the wheel. It is rather different when the harbour entrance is something she must steer towards herself.
When snow brings them to the Copper Dormouse, Louisa chooses the bed by the window and gives Beatrice the one by the fire, because her feet are always cold. They have been taking turns since their seaside holiday.
