Henry Bellweather
Keeper of the shop's accounts, with an exact eye and opinions of his own.
Look closer at the illustration ↗Henry is thirty-four and keeps the accounts at Bellweather & Sons. He took over at twenty-three, when Mr Cobbold retired to Hastings. His figures have earned the unusual approval of Mr Haverstock, the banker.
Edward and Bartholomew make the toys; Henry makes the day's business add up. He has been quick with figures since childhood, and the ledger is a contribution he rightly values.
On the winter sleeper, he finally closes that ledger and puts it at the bottom of the case. With his father, he watches the journey unfold. His care is sometimes expressed through tickets, plans and a very red dressing gown; on this night, he also finds the words to say that he has missed him.
