Little Tallowmere wharf

A stone landing below the orchard, with a crane like a heron.

The wharf has a short stone edge, a hand crane, a low warehouse and a small stable with a lamp above its door. The orchard rises behind it. One path leads through the trees towards the Copper Dormouse; a lane goes up to the village green.

Ada brings Patience here with Pip and the bell for St Hilda’s. Dorothea and the verger wait with lanterns. While Pip goes uphill to a bed at the inn, Ada covers the bell for the night and settles in the boat’s cabin.
